Most of you have likely wandered around your local garden center and admired the many water features for sale. Most of them are pretty beautiful and would take pride of place in any garden. However, their price tags are normally pretty astronomical. So high, in fact, that we are destined to also admire them and never buy them.
That feeling has never hit us harder than when we saw the water feature below. A crafted vortex fountain. Remarkable isn't it? If you love it as much as we do, and you have $2500 to spare, then you can make it your own. However, if you don't have that much money to splash out on a fountain, it turns out the science behind how it works is simple enough that you can build your own at home.

Adapt has outlined the materials and tools you'll need to make your own cyclone feature as well as how to go about putting one together. You'll need an acrylic jar, a water pump with a pipe, sandpaper, a power drill, a sealant gun, acrylic sheet, acrylic solvent, screws, a screwdriver, and a base. Now for the tricky part, turning all of that into a beautiful water feature.
Remove the jar's top rim bead so that it has flat edges. Wet sand the outside of the jar. Drill a hole in the center of the jar's base, and also another in the side of the base at a tangent. Use a sealant gun to attach your pump to that second hole. Then, use your acrylic solvent to attach a base to the jar. Last but not least, drill some holes in your base so that water can collect in the catchment area below.
